What it means
B0023. Right roof rail airbag deployment loop circuit fault. The module detects a problem in the circuit and sets the airbag warning light. This Chevy-enhanced code applies to Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Saturn models that use this code.
Findings, check these first
- Open or high resistance in the right roof rail airbag deployment circuit
- Shorted right roof rail airbag harness rubbing on a metal bracket
- Corroded or loose connector at the right roof rail airbag
- Failed right roof rail airbag inflator with an internal open or short
- Faulty driver inside the sensing and diagnostic module for that loop
Standard procedure
- Confirm the code with a Tech2 or GDS2 and read the loop symptom byte
- Disconnect the battery and wait at least three minutes before touching any SRS circuit
- Inspect and reseat the right roof rail airbag connector and check terminal tension
- Test the deployment circuit for opens, shorts to ground and shorts to battery
- Replace the right roof rail airbag only if the circuit tests good, using a qualified SRS technician
