Findings, check these first
- Inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) replaced without completing the setup procedure
- Primary data key mismatch between the SDM and the body control module (BCM)
- Used SDM installed from another vehicle carrying the wrong configuration
- Corrupted SDM memory after a low-voltage event or interrupted reflash
Standard procedure
- Confirm with a Tech2 or GDS2 that B1001 is current in the SDM, not a stale history code
- Verify the SDM part number matches the vehicle VIN and option content
- Perform the SDM setup and configuration procedure per GM service information
- Check SDM powers, grounds, and serial data circuits before replacing the module
- Replace the SDM only if configuration fails with good wiring; SRS work should be done by a qualified technician
