P1441
Evaporative Emission System Flow During Non-Purge
What it means
P1441. Evaporative Emission System Flow During Non-Purge. This Chevy-enhanced code applies to Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Blazer, S-10, Cavalier.
Findings, check these first
- Purge solenoid stuck open, the number one cause on GMT800 trucks and J-body cars
- Cracked or misrouted EVAP hoses drawing manifold vacuum during non-purge
- Failed EVAP canister vent valve not sealing the system
- Faulty fuel tank pressure sensor misreporting vacuum pull-down
Standard procedure
- Command the purge valve closed with a Tech2/GDS2 scan tool and check for vacuum at the purge port
- Apply vacuum to the purge solenoid by hand; it must hold vacuum when de-energized
- Smoke-test the EVAP lines to rule out cracked hoses before replacing the solenoid
- Replace the purge solenoid (a low-cost part) only after it fails the vacuum-hold test
