What it means
P1114. Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit Intermittent Low Voltage. This Chevy-enhanced code applies to Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Impala, Malibu.
Findings, check these first
- Failing ECT sensor with intermittent internal short
- ECT signal wire chafed to ground near the thermostat housing
- Coolant intrusion into the ECT connector
- Low coolant level exposing the ECT sensor tip
- Corroded ground splice shared with the ECT circuit
Standard procedure
- Graph ECT on a Tech2 or GDS2 and look for sudden hot spikes
- Inspect the ECT connector for coolant wicking and green corrosion
