P1635
5 Volt Reference Circuit
What it means
P1635. 5 Volt Reference Circuit. This Chevy-enhanced code applies to Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Impala, Malibu, Equinox.
Findings, check these first
- Shorted 5-volt sensor (commonly MAP, A/C pressure, or fuel tank pressure sensor) dragging the reference down
- Chafed 5-volt reference harness shorting to ground along the engine
- Failed PCM 5-volt regulator
- Water intrusion in a sensor connector bridging the reference to ground
Standard procedure
- Unplug 5-volt sensors one at a time while watching reference voltage return on a Tech2/GDS2 scan tool
- Inspect the engine harness for chafing at the back of the intake and near sharp brackets
- Test each sensor connector for water corrosion before condemning the PCM
- Repair the shorted sensor or wiring; replace the PCM only if the reference stays low with all sensors unplugged
